Background • Full name Alissa Zinovievna Rosenbaum. • She was born on 2/2/1905 in St. Petersburg, Russia and died on 3/6/1982 of heart failure. • She went to the University of Petrograd. • She taught herself to read at the age of 6. • She started writing screenplays at 8 years old and then novels at 10.

  3. Inspiration • She was inspired mainly by her life and the situation she lived in in russia.

  4. Reviews “The book is “Atlas Shrugged,” Ayn Rand’s glorification of the right of individuals to live entirely for their own interest.” New York Times

  5. Objectivism • To follow this according to Ayn Rand you must follow these guidelines (1) “Nature, to be commanded, must be obeyed” or “Wishing won’t make it so.” (2) “You can’t eat your cake and have it, too.” (3) “Man is an end in himself.” (4) “Give me liberty or give me death.”

  6. Late Life • Her last book was printed in 1957 and it was Atlas Shrugged. • After that she wrote and lectured about philosophy until she died.

  7. Legacy • She is remembered as a survivor. • She lived through many wars and violent outbreaks. • This is usually classified as one of the main inspirations for her writing
