SEMINAR ON E-WASTE
E-WASTE • Electronics waste comprises waste that are not fit for their original intended use or have reached their end of life.
IT MAY INCLUDE:- • SERVERS • MAINFRAMES • MONITORS • SCANNER • COPIERS • CALCULATORS • FAX MACHINE • BATTERY CELLS • CELLULAR PHONES • TV’S • MEDICAL APPARATUS • COMPUTERS.
Electronics and electrical equipment seem efficient and environmentally-friendly. • But there are hidden dangers associated with them once they have become e-waste. • As in electronics product like computers and cellphones contain a lot of different toxins. • These materials can cause damage to the human nervous and respiratory systems.
IS E-waste Hazardous...???? • E-waste is not hazardous per se. • However the hazardous constituents present in E-waste are responsible. • And they possess hazard to health and environment.
Hazardous Substances in E-Waste Hazardous Substances in e-Waste HALOGINATED COMPOUNDS
HAZARDOUS TECHNOLOGY • INCENERATION • OPEN BURNING • LANDFILLING
INCENERATION INCENERATION IS THE PROCESS OF DISTROYING WASTE THROUGH BURNING
OPEN BURNING Since open fires burn at relatively low temperatures, they release many more pollutants than in a controlled Incineration process at an MSWI-plant.
LANDFILLING Landfilling is one of the most widely used methods of waste disposal.
Recycling Technologies • Detoxication • Shredding • Refining
CONCLUSION wE SHOULD ADOPT BETTER RECYCLING PROCESS
