  1. Advertisements always tell us that the product on display is the absolute best thing out there. What would they look like if they told the truth? (…yeah right)

  2. Truth: you won’t get big and strong just by eating cereal

  3. Truth: soup made at home is always so hot that you just wind up with a burned mouth

  4. Truth: the life of a soldier is not always so glamorous

  5. Truth: nothing against M&Ms in particular, but everyone knows that “melts in your mouth, not in your hand” is a total joke. Chocolate melts. That’s just what it does.

  6. Truth: What’s the most expensive part about having a new baby? Diapers.

  7. Truth: Processed, canned foods are full of chemical preservatives and other unhealthy additives

Assignment • Working in pairs, create your own satirical advertisement: • Select a product to satirize • Imagine what an advertisement for that product would look like if it accurately depicted that product • Use crayons, markers, colored pencils, and (most of all) creativity to make an honest advertisement of your product
