International Coordination-group for Laser Atmospheric Studies (ICLAS)Working Group Report for 2011 ICLAS: Promotes the development and application of laser sensing techniques and laser instrument architectures used to study the atmospheres of the Earth and other planets. ICLAS: Takes care of the promotion and organization of the International Laser Radar Conferences (ILRCs), gathering the laser remote sensing community and are convened during the even years, e.g. 2002. ICLAS • ICLAS is composed of: • • The President, who is the WG Chairman • • The Working Group • • The Executive Committee • The term of office of the President shall be six years • The Working Group members shall have six-year terms • Approximately 13 members with 6-year terms • Committee meets at the ILRC Conference site every two years • Candidates are proposed and selected seeking to achieve a reasonable balance in their geographical and professional distribution • Executive Committee members include, President, Past President, with six year term and Treasurer with no term limitation • The Executive Committee in consultation with ICLAS members elects new members and selects the winners of different awards, including Inaba Prize, Lifetime Achievement Award and various oral and poster awards IRC Business Meeting, June 30, 2011, Melbourne, Australia

  4. Report on the 25th International Laser Radar Conference (ILRC) • 5-9 July 2010, Hotel St. Petersburg, St. Petersburg, Russia • 310 attendees, including an estimated 40 students • Conference co-chairs: Prof. Gennady Matvienko and Dr. Alexander Zemlyanov, Russia • 310 submitted papers, with the paper summaries (extended abstract) published in the 2-volume Digest of the 25th ILRC • Both oral and poster papers were presented. In keeping with longstandingtradition, the oral presentations were delivered to the entire body of attendees (no simultaneous oral sessions) • 70 oral presentations in 11 oral sessions, plus 3 keynote presentations • 11 poster sessions on various lidar measurement topics, lidar applications to atmospheric science, and lidar-related technologies IRC Business Meeting, June 30, 2011, Melbourne, Australia

Report on the 25th International Laser Radar Conference (ILRC) • The 26th International Laser Radar Conference (ILRC 26) will be held at Porto Heli, Peloponnesus, Greece on July 25-29, 2012 • The proposal for the 27th International Laser Radar Conference (2014) will be considered at the Greece meeting – Possible candidates: USA, Latin America, China • Three new Working Group Members were elected: Thomas J. McGee (NASA GSFC, USA), Kohei Mizutani (NICT, Japan) and Doina Nicole (INOE, Romania) replacing Ken Sassen (USA), Nobuo Sugimoto (Japan) and Adolfo Comeron (Spain) IRC Business Meeting, June 30, 2011, Melbourne, Australia

  6. ILRC Travel Grants • Dr. Thomas J. McGee, NASA GSFC, Chair, ILRC Travel Grant Committee (Four WG Committee Members) • Ms Debra G. Hallmark, Universities Space Research Association (USRA) – Grant Coordinator • NASA funds ($70K) were exclusively applied for Travel Scholarships to 21 Graduate Students (Brazil, South Africa, Germany, Canada, South Korea, Italy, Argentina, Greece, Philippines, Bulgaria, Sweden, USA) • Dr. Milton Huffaker supported 7 Junior Scientists Travel ( Argentina, Greece, Philippines, Romania) • ILRC Organizing Committee provided registration waivers and partial travel support to various Junior and Senior Scientists IRC Business Meeting, June 30, 2011, Melbourne, Australia
