Day 1 Objective: Students will construct habitat container.
Expectations: You will work with the members of your group. Each member of the group will have a job to do. You will perform the job you are assigned to do. You will share and take turns with the members of your group in a respectful way. You will treat living things with great care.
Procedure: When I call your group each member will get their assigned materials and take them to their work area: # 1: A habitat container # 2: A liter of soil # 3: A tray and 4 leaves #4: 4 twigs Be ready for the Quiet Signal.
When I tell you to begin Carefully pour soil into habitat. Spread it to cover the bottom of the container. Place the leaves and sticks in the habitat. Be ready for the Quiet Signal
When I call your group Person # 1 will return the habitat to the counter. Person # 3 will return the tray. All members of the group will wash their hands.
Day 2 Objective: Students will collect roly poly pill bugs.
Expectations: You will listen and follow directions. You will stay with the group. You will walk quietly out of the building and return quietly. You will share and take turns with the members of your group in a respectful way. You will treat living things with great care.
Procedure: When I call your group, each member will get an empty milk carton and a spoon. You will line up quietly. We will walk down to the field. We will look for roly poly pill bugs and scoop them into the milk cartons with the spoons. We will return to the building quietly. We will place the pill bugs into the habitats. Be ready for the Quiet Signal.
Day 3 Objective: Students will read and record facts about roly poly pill bugs on a graphic organizer.
Procedure: You have a graphic organizer for information about roly poly pill bugs. During independent work time you should choose a book from the book bin about roly poly pill bugs. As you read, record facts in the correct columns. Remember to use the Library Signal for permission to leave your desk. You may work with a member of your group in quiet whispers.
