  4. Creating Summary Statements • What is the most important information from the paragraph? • Should or could you use a direct quote as part of the summary statement?

Summary Statements—Example 16 • Extending her analysis of the reading lists, Prose juxtaposes literature she likes—The Great Gatsby, The Scarlet Letter, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, books by George Orwell and the Brontës—with that she doesn’t: Ray Bradbury, Elie Wiesel’s Night, A Separate Peace and Lord of the Flies.
