  2. Estar y Ser • There are two verbs in Spanish that mean “to be” • They may mean the same, but are used in different situations • First, let’s begin with their conjugations • We will start with Ser

  3. Ser is an irregular verb (it does not follow a pattern that regular Spanish verbs do)

  4. Ser • It is best to memorize the conjugations of Ser as it doesn’t follow a pattern. • The following is a list of circumstances in which it is necessary to use Ser and not Estar

  5. Time ¿Qué hora es? Son las dos. Origin ¿De dónde eres? Soy de Nebraska. Characteristics ¿Cómo eres? Soy paciente/ Professions Soy maestro Nationality Soy cubano The uses of Ser

  6. Like Ser, Estar is an irregular verb

  7. Estar • It is best to memorize the conjugations of estar • Pay close attention to the accent marks on this verb • They appear above the “a” in all the forms with the exception of the yo and nosotros forms
