Different musical styles like Jazz, Rock n roll, and Hip hop music will be discussed. We will study the evolution of American Pop music from the 1900 to the present. We will analyze these styles and be able to discuss and explain what is distinctive of each style of music. We will also discuss important events in US history and understand its impact in music.
4. Musical Elements:
Syncopated Rhythms
Melodic Improvisations
Harmonic Chords
We will learn to visually and aurally identify rhythmic, melodic and harmonic patterns of each musical style.
5. Names of famous people who influenced American popular music.
example: Scott Joplin, Elvis Presley
We will talk about their contributions to the development of American pop music. What they did to introduce their musical style and what they had to overcome to do it.
6. What We Will Create Individual projects:
Create and perform rhythmic, melodic and harmonic accompaniments to a given musical work.
Example: play chords on keyboard, write syncopated patterns for drums.
Group Projects:
Power point presentation about a particular musical style and the era it was from.
Newsletter, Brochure or Poster about a famous person who influenced American pop music.
Music Video of a musical style that includes singing and playing musical instruments.
