  2. Objective • Understand the importance of collaborative teaming • Understand the characteristics and benefits to effective teaming • Identify critical team roles and responsibilities

Have you ever been part of this team? • No agenda is prepared • Meeting starts late • No time schedule has been set for the meeting • No one is prepared • No facilitator is identified • No one agrees on anything • No action plan is developed • Everyone is off task • Negative tone throughout the meeting

  4. Ingredients for Successful Teams • Supportive environments • Encouraging team members • Adequate time for meetings • Clarification of expected roles • Common goal to achieve • Mutual respect for others and all ideas • Process for conflict resolution

  5. Anything I can do, WE can do better • Individual contributions • Team contributions • Different perspectives • Looking at things objectively • Productivity • Accuracy • Consensus

  6. Possible Kinds of Teams • Individual classrooms • Grade level • Academic / subject level • Team rotation • ESE

  7. Benefits to Teaming • Share experiences • Share expertise • Share materials/lesson plans • Assistance with difficult situations • Observe classroom and individual students • Different perspectives • Consistency for students across teachers

Possible Meeting Roles • Team leader - facilitates, reviews the purpose, and keeps the team focused on the meeting • Recorder - responsible for transcribing the team’s responses on a master record • Timekeeper- responsible for monitoring the amount of time available, and keeps the team aware of time limits

  9. How can we stretch our minds? • Continuously seeking to improve what you do and make it BETTER • Problem-solve • Bring in new and additional people • Identify those individuals that can provide you with additional resources • Collaborate with other agencies • Try new interventions and strategies • 10% Stretch

Activity: A Clear Image… • How well do you really know your team members? • Independently list 3 things about yourself that are true and one thing about yourself that is false • Do not indicate which items are fact or faction… that is up to your team to decide • Share information with your team • Example:I just hit four numbers in the lotto, I use to have red hair, I practiced ballet for 13 years, I use to work in a high school

Activity: Teaming/Collaboration • What kind of team are you on? • i.e., grade level team • What is your team purpose? • What is the role of your team? • Does your team deal with behavior issues? • Identify additional strategies that might enhance team collaboration and allow your team to address behavior issues at the classroom level.
