Yitzhak Rabin was born in Jerusalem in 1922 to Nehemiah and Rosa, two pioneers of the Third Aliyah. Rabin grew up in Tel Aviv, where the family relocated when he was one year old.
He studied at the Kadoorie Agricultural College where he graduated with distinction.
In 1967 Rabin plays an important role during the Six Days War; he was Chief of Staff . After this he ends his military career .
In the 1948 War of Independence he was a commander in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). He became the top general in the IDF. He was also a Defense Minister of the State of Israel.
In the years 1967 -1973 Rabin worked as an Israeli ambassador to the US in Washington D.C. In 1973 Rabin returns to Israel and became a Labor Minister .
Yitzhak Rabin was prime minister twice, in 1973, and also in 1992.
Personal Life • Rabin married Leah Rabin (born Schlossberg) during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. • Leah Rabin was working at the time as a reporter for a Palmach newspaper. • They had two children, Dalia and Yuval.
Rabin made history by signing a peace treaty with the Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat in 1993. For this achievement Rabin received the Nobel Peace Prize .
On November 4, 1995, Yitzhak Rabin joined President Shimon Peres at a largepeace rally in Tel Aviv's 'Kings of Israel' square. Minutes later, as he was about to leave the rally, Israeli Yigal Amirjumped out of the crowd and shot Rabin two times from near point blank range. Less than an hour later Rabin was pronounced dead at a Tel Aviv area hospital.
