  4. Constructing 120mm Tank Cannon SDZ • Construct a 120mm tank cannon SDZ for that weapon firing the M830 HEAT-MP-T cartridge into steel. • Dimensions of the SDZ for this weapon system are given in DA-PAM 385-63, Chapter 12, Table 12-2. • First, plot the firing point, target, and then establish the gun target line. August 2003

  5. Plot the firing point. • Plot the target. • Establish the gun target line. August 2003

  6. From Table 12-2, find Distance X (steel). • Distance X = 6589m (ˆ6600m) • Annotate Distance X on the legend. Distance X August 2003

  7. At the firing point, measure 5° from the left and right of the gun target line. • Draw tic marks as shown. Distance X 5° August 2003

  8. Dispersion Area 5° • To establish the lateral limits of the Dispersion Area, draw a straight line from the firing position through each tic mark out to Distance X. Distance X • This completes the Dispersion Area. August 2003

  9. Dispersion Area • For the Ricochet Area, on Table 12-5, find the measurement for Distance W (steel). • Distance W = Distance X 600m • Lightly draw lines perpendicular to the limits of the Dispersion Area. August 2003

  10. Dispersion Area • Draw tic marks at the measurement for Distance W on the lines just drawn. • Draw straight lines through the tic marks. Distance X August 2003

  11. Dispersion Area P P • On Table 12-2, find the Angle P. • Angle P = 12° • At the firing point, measure 12° from the left and right limits of the Dispersion Area. Distance X 12° • Draw tic marks. August 2003

  12. Ricochet Area Dispersion Area • Draw a straight line from the firing point through each tic mark just drawn. • This completes the Ricochet Area. Distance X • Annotate the Ricochet Area on the legend. 12° P P August 2003

  13. Ricochet Area Dispersion Area • From the firing point, scribe an arc between the left and right limits of the Ricochet Area. Use Distance X as the radius. Distance X Distance X • Erase any unnecessary lines. August 2003

  14. Ricochet Area Dispersion Area • From the firing point, scribe an arc between the left and right limits of the Ricochet Area. Use Distance X as the radius. Distance X • Erase any unnecessary lines. August 2003

  15. Ricochet Area Dispersion Area • On Table 12-2, find the measurement for Area A. • Area A = 1,125m (ˆ1,150m) • Lightly draw lines perpendicular to the limits of the Ricochet Area. Distance X • Draw tic marks at the measurement for Area A. August 2003

  16. Ricochet Area Dispersion Area • Draw straight lines through the tic marks. • On Table 12-2, find the measurement for Area B. Distance X • Area B = 1,125m (ˆ1,150m) • Lightly draw a line extending the gun target line the measurement of Area B. August 2003

  17. Ricochet Area Dispersion Area • Draw a tic mark at the measurement for Area B. • Place the needle of the compass at the firing point and scribe an arc through the tic mark between the limits of Area A. • From the firing point, measure 25° to the right and left of the limits of the Ricochet Area. 25° August 2003

  18. Area B Area A Ricochet Area Dispersion Area • Draw tic marks. • From the firing point, draw straight lines out through the tic marks as shown. • This completes Areas A and B. Distance X • Erase any unnecessary lines. 25° August 2003

  19. Area B Area A Ricochet Area Dispersion Area • Draw tic marks. • From the firing point, draw straight lines out through the tic marks as shown. • This completes Areas A and B. Distance X • Erase any unnecessary lines. August 2003
