  2. Initial “Brain-warmer” activity List what you expect & would like to cover whilst doing this award

Aim: Introduction to the award By the end of this Session. • Everyonewill be able to: - Identify 4 key components of the leadership award & how the units will be achieved. • Most will be able to: • Explain the components that make the difference between a good & bad leader. • Some will be able to: • Evaluate the level of influence of the coach on the development of a young performer

Breakdown of 1st 4 sportLeadership through Rugby Union award • 12 Tasks broken into 4 areas of development • Tag rugby • Refereeing / officiating • Modified / adapted games • Run a tag event • Theory sessions ran in evenings to Front-load information • Videos to support learning with homework – Run different aspects of sessions during practical sessions • Voluntary work – Training sessions, Wednesday evenings, weekend work & end of term opportunities. Working with kids, disability & young players / non-players (EFL’s?)

  5. Task 1 • On Flip chart paper, identify all roles of a rugby coach / leader • Using a flip chart sheet, identify what responsibilities they have.

  6. Task 2 Consider what makes a good coach – Think about good teachers you’ve had & the bad ones. • What made some so good? – Yellow post-its • What made others bad? Orange post-its • What can we learn from these points

  7. Videos • Look at the attached video & list as many positives & negatives you can about the coach.   8. Child protection • What is child protection? • Who is responsible? • What does C.P involve? • How do clubs ensure child protection? • What is CRB?

  9. Next week • We will be looking at what makes a good session; brief (Terminal feedback), warm-up , pulse-raiser, drills, main session, cool down, feedback. • Positive / negative/ concurrent / terminal feedback • Continuums & game adaptations
