Brazil for Tech Startups: The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly • The Good • Tremendous opportunity to innovate on already successful business models proven elsewhere • Very unique combination of strong economic growth, Internet explosion, and a very social culture • Brazilians are obsessed with novelty, and will try just about anything that new and provides VALUE • The Bad • Connectivity Infrastructure at least a decade behind US & Europe • Over-heated economy generated a vastly increased demand for IT professionals, inflating wages • Lack of successful Exits by Tech Startups where Engineers capitalized makes it harder to retain talent on the potential of Stock Options alone • The Ugly • A Federal Government that simply does NOT care about Tech Entrepreneurship • A tax code that doesn’t make sense event to the lawmakers that created it • Senseless bureaucracy makes it nearly impossible for the “2 guys in a garage” to ever succeed
