Paranoid Personality Disorder Paranoid personality disorder is a mental disorder that cause people to be suspicious and generalize mistrust of others, they think that they are in danger and look for signs and threat. Basically like every ones out to get them.
Associated Features • This disorder is when a person has distrust and suspicion of others but not to the point to where they have schizophrenia. • Concerns: People have hidden motives. • Can’t work with others in group projects and not good with jobs.
Etiology • The environment you grew up in, or your life situations. These are the surroundings you grew up in, events that happened, and relationships with family members and others people, such as the type of parenting you had , whether it was loving or abusive. This is part of the “nurture” part of the Nature vs. nurture argument. • Genes are part of the development of this disorder, the way of your personality passed on to you by your parents, like shyness or having a happy attitude, this is part of the “nature” part of the nature vs. nurture argument.
Treatment • Treatment is difficult because people with this condition are often very suspicious of doctors. While patients don’t accept to go to talk therapy the therapist himself have to be very careful with the way he talks to his patients. family member convince them to attend, once they make up their mind, if they do attend talk therapy they are prescribed medication.
Change will only happened if the patient accepts to attend talk therapy and the medication will reduce the impact of the disorder interrupting their daily lives. Prognosis
Prevalence • Mostly common within minority groups, immigrants, and the deaf. • Women - 0.7% • Male - 5.1%
