  4. How B.U.S. began Bus behavior a district-wide issue identified by coaches Each building had its own terms, expectations, etc Sub-committee of PBIS coaches Training of bus drivers/aides in August 2013

  5. Recognizing Students Doing Good! A positive approach to discipline Models what good behavior looks like Builds relationships Teaches in natural settings Provides reminders or precorrections for display of desired behaviors

  6. What we know about behavior Kids do well if they can…

  7. Children comply with the rules 80% of the time. However, they are complimented on their behavior less than….

  8. What we know about behavior • We need to TEACH behaviors • Lagging thinking skills • Problem solving • Dealing with behavior takes away from instruction

  9. “I shouldn’t have to….” I shouldn’t have to do anything. Kids know what they are supposed to do, why should I have to compliment them, give them rewards, or offer incentives of any sort?

Examples of : Be respectful & responsible: Following bus driver directions Make good choices Use technology appropriately Keeps hands and feet to yourself & in the bus Keep bus free of trash and damage Keep track of your belongings Be on time Be safe waiting, riding, and crossing Share your seat with others

  17. Examples of : Use positive language & quiet voice Say nice things Greet and say goodbye to the driver Give compliments Use appropriate language and friendly tone Talk quietly with your neighbors

  18. Examples of: Stay in your seat Stay in assigned seat Face forward Keep aisle clear Stay seated at all times Wear your seat belt (if applicable)

  19. TICKETS AND REWARDS Students receive a Cougar Pride, Husky Pride or Falcon Pride ticket when “caught” doing something right! Examples include: Picking up trash Helping a friend Stopping a rumor, fight, etc.. Waiting in line Sitting quietly ( on the bus!) (Some schools are not PBIS schools and may not provide these extra rewards, but bus behavior will still improve due to the positive recognition students are receiving.)

  20. How the B.U.S. ticket works Drivers can hand out a ticket to any student doing the right thing as they exit the bus. Students will fill out the information on their own and get it to the right spot in their building Goal of each driver is at least ONE ticket per day/route Reward for all….better behavior on the bus!

  21. Students win prizes and recognition for being a role model Pens, Pencils, Gift Cards, Front Of the Line Pass, Wild Tickets, Game Tickets and More!

  22. Bus Drivers Can….. Build Relationships Recognize students for doing the right thing Use B.U.S. values as common language Hand out tickets Be positive
