  1. ADSL - intYDSL

  2. What is ADSL? • Fast Always-on Internet • Two intYdsl speeds • 512k Download • 2048k (2Mb) Download • Upload is always 256k • Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line • Comes down your POTS line – you can still use the phone!

  3. Coverage • All ADSL is delivered by BT • BT provide national data transport Via ‘Colossus’ network • Colossus has ample bandwidth linking all telephone exchanges in the UK • Main metropolitan areas covered • Everywhere that has a primary school will get ADSL

  4. Service levels and contention • Not a mission critical service • Expect the same service and reliability as you get for your telephone line. • Services are contended by up to 20:1 although this is rarely big problem. • A 2MB line could be as slow as a 64k line, but is half the price. Big upside. • Back end internet access from XO – biggest ADSL provider in the US

  5. How is intYdsl different • We provide static IP’s • Required for VPN and reverse network access • We do not use NAT on the ADSL box • Other such as BT do, theirs wont work with VPN, you can’t check your email from home • It is managed by intY • It is charged annually • Cheaper installation • No liability exposure

  6. Big in 2001 • ADSL needs intY servers • Firewall • Remote access • VPN • ADSL is excellent value - £40 more than ISDN • Good partner commissions – 10% of annual subscriptions • ADSL will un-lock VPN opportunities = multiple sales

  7. ISDN & intYsurf

  8. Two Flavours of ISDN • Primary Rate or ISDN30 • Delivered via Fibre-Optic • Can carry 8-30 concurrent voice/data channels • Basic Rate or ISDN2 • Delivered via Copper • Can carry 1-2 concurrent voice/data channels

  9. BT Surftime and intYsurf • Allows fixed cost access to 0844 04 numbers - £17.01 • intY provides 0844 04 access number and password - £11 • Compatible with ISDN or POTS • 3 month minimum term • 0845 costs around £200 per month

  10. The right ISDN for intYsurf • Must be ISDN2e • This is delivered over copper to a wall box • Multiline etc: A single dedicated circuit is safest. • Also works with analogue POTS line delivered over copper.

  11. What about intY and ISDN30? • Modern telephone systems can deliver a basic rate interface (ISDN2ish)from ISDN30 • Often required the addition of a specail card in the phone system (c £450) • There are compatibility issues between various manufacturer's equipment • Not compatible with intYsurf

  12. Recommendations • Install an ISDN2e line (£250) • Dedicated for intY use • Can have intYsurf • Overall cost savings on broken-out ISDN30 • Can easily support remote access modem • These customers have no trouble.

  13. Deploying The intY VPN

  14. Key Components • intY access servers – V3.2 or later • HQ must be on fixed (intYdsl) line • Remote sites can be connected via fixed or dial-up internet connections. • Dial-up lines should used unmetered access (intYsurf)

  15. Network connectivity

  16. What is intY’s offer? • A complete end-to-end solution • Simple to configure and install • All connectivity options • ADSL: intYdsl • ISDN: intYsurf unmetered • Leased Lines: BTnet start 256k+ • Fully managed and supported

  17. Applications • Leased line replacement • Joins several sites together • Shared fileservers and network resources • No user training – looks line a LAN • Host access for branch/franchise offices • Secure access for transaction processing • Low cost of implementation and support • Rapid deployment • Temporary or geographically remote workgroup • Exhibition or campaign based activities • Portacabins • Incident rooms

  18. Compatability • Works with NT and other TCP/IP networks • Standard intY services remain • Email • Web access • Control • Supports Microsoft PPTP servers behind firewall

  19. Security & Compression • Encryption module licenced from Sun Microsystems inc • Secure 168 bit Triple-Des encryption with 2048 bit encryption keys • All VPN traffic controlled via the accredited intY firewall • Deflate data compression provides up to 4:1 increase in VPN data throughput.

  20. Summary • Easy to implement • Connectivity all worked out – Pick & Mix • High performance and security • Fully managed and supported by intY’s 100% service level guarantee • It just works!
