Connection Campaign: A Primary Prevention Campaign

This report outlines the goals and strategies of the BE-WELL GRANT Connection Campaign, which aims to expand mental health promotion efforts to Garfield and Eagle Counties, increase the number of mental health providers in the Aspen Strong Directory, and train providers to accept third-party insurance.

Expand the Pitkin Mental Health Promotion Media Campaign to Garfield and Eagle Counties and ensure messaging is visible to residents, workers and visitors in all three counties. 2. Increase the number of regional mental health and substance abuse providers listed in the Aspen Strong Directory. 3. Increase the number of mental health providers who accept third party insurance, particularly Health First, CO, through trainings on how to become “Medicaid” credentialed.

GOAL 1 Expand the Pitkin Mental Health Promotion Media Campaign to Garfield and Eagle Counties and ensure messaging is visible to residents, workers and visitors in all three counties. • REGIONAL BUY IN: • Presented campaign to Human Services Commission in Garfield County, Community Connector Network of Garfield County, Aspen Art Museum, Aspen Ski Company employees, and ‘boots on the ground’ efforts to local businesses in Glenwood Springs and Carbondale, Communities that Care board for Pitkin County • Workplace Partnerships: Roaring Fork Neurology, Aspen Valley Hospital, Town of Snowmass Village • Additional Funding: Aspen Thrift Store, Snowmass Rotary, Aspen Ski Co grants • Launch of Campaign: • Official launch at Changing Brains Changing Lives Symposium-community event. • 120 attendees from across the Valley • Connection Campaign Video • Panel of professionals and community members to discuss the importance of connection

Social Media Digital Trends and Program Analytics. facebook user engagement in the past 28 days Facebook marketing, funded by the Be Well grant, resulted in increased user engagement has in since January 2019. About 17% of all traffic to the Aspen Strong website is from facebook marketing. Through this marketing channel, we are able to reach users from Aspen to Rifle, and even Denver. We will continue to look at male engagement and how to increase their open rate/”openness “to connect to resources.

  10. WEBSITE ANALYTICS The sections in green represent the web pages promoting Connection Campaign content and resources. The development and maintenance of these pages have been supported by the Be Well grant.

  11. GOAL 2 Increase the number of regional mental health and substance abuse providers listed in the Aspen Strong Directory. DIRECTORY RESULTS • 86 total providers, up from 55 in July • 18 providers accepting Medicaid, 3 in process of getting credentialed STRATEGIES • Mailings to potential providers • Tele-mental health providers (to address gaps in service-i.e. Medicaid and/or spanish speaking) • Collaboration with Eagle County Public Health and mailing/outreach to Eagle County providers • Updates to Directory: reformat the way tele-mental health provides are listed so they are not overlooked by the user • Change to initial landing page to make more user friendly and • Facilitating/promoting education opportunities for providers (online course, CEU opportunities, RFMHP meetings)

Directory Trends • Online Provider Directory • 86 providers, up from 55 in July; 21 organizations and 65 individual providers • 18 providers in Garfield County, • 2 providers from Eagle County, • 12 tele-mental health providers who accept Medicaid, 6 local providers who accept Medicaid (up from 3 in February) • 415 users from January-April, up from 227 total users from Aug-Dec 2018. • 35% in Aspen • 21% in Glenwood Springs • 16% in Denver

GOAL 3 Increase the number of mental health providers who accept third party insurance, particularly Health First, CO, through trainings on how to become “Medicaid” credentialed. • Medicaid Training (with West Mountain Regional Health Alliance) • Information meeting held in January • 7 providers in attendance, 3 via Zoom call • Medicaid credentialing meeting in March • 7 in attendance • 6 providers began the credentialing process, ~3 completed the day of event

EVALUATION • Evaluation of Connection Campaign: • Directory analytics: overall trending up, mostly due to increase social media marketing and Google ads • 18 Medicaid providers on the Provider Directory, 10 tele-mental health and 8 local (up from 5 local in February 2019). Seven providers attended the Medicaid credentialing training. • Total Mental Health Screenings in 2019: 401 • 51% Garfield County residents • 19% Pitkin County residents • 16% Eagle County residents • 12% Neither • 3% Gunnison/Mesa/Delta county residents

CHALLENGES & FUTURE GOALS • CHALLENGES • Directory maintenance and speed/issues • Need to rebuild basics of site to address speed/performance issues and build capacity for more users and providers- inability to feature those that accept Medicaid and Telemental health providers • Cost associated, staff time • Partner “buy in” of campaign • Would like to have more buy in from organizations, particularly down valley • Securing additional funding to support campaign • Medicaid Credentialing Process • More complicated than providers anticipated • Reimbursement vs. time commitment are issues keeping providers from joining (given high cost of living in this Valley) • FUTURE GOALS: • Tele-mental health filter for Directory, coming in June • Continue to increase providers who accept Medicaid and other insurance • Collaboration with Primary Care doctors and physicians include mental health care into primary health care visits
