Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Services: Mission • Advocate in VA Central Office for recovery oriented mental health care in VHA • Promote PSR and recovery oriented services through education, consultation, program development, monitoring and evaluation • Support coordination and integration of PSR and recovery oriented services
Patient Care Services Strategic Plan Promote the Psychosocial Rehabilitation model with a Recovery emphasis for veterans with Serious Mental Illness Mental Health Executive Steering Committee Workgroup Recommendations Approximately half of the 50 recommendations relate to PSR&RS section Mental Health Strategic Plan
PSR&RS Initiatives • Program development - current Funding Guidance distributed to the field: • Peer support 18, 37 • Family psychoeducation 14, 21 • Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Centers (PRRCs) 16, 26 • Compensated Work Therapy (CWT) 10, 12 13, 13 (PT) • Other Evidence based practices 16, 24

Educational Initiatives • Satellite programs addressing the general principles of psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery for all mental health staff have been broadcast. • Conferences have been held in vocational rehabilitation, peer support and Mental Health Intensive Case Management
Educational Initiatives (continued) • Interprofessional Fellowship Program in Psychosocial Rehabilitation for psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and mental health nurses funded by OAA • Educational opportunities have been planned and supported by EES, OAA, OMHS, MIRECCs, VISNs and individual facilities

What VACO Needs From the Field for MHSP Implementation • Support for basic premises of PNFCMH, e.g.: • Mental Health Is Essential to Overall Health • Everyone with a mental illness should have access to effective treatment and supports — essentials for living, working, learning, and participating fully in the community • Proactive response to calls for funding proposals and to generate ideas for proposals • Communication to VACO Office of Mental Health Services about successes, obstacles, creative ideas, etc. (training/education)
