  1. The Call to Follow!Lesson 1

  2. Getting started… • What do you find easer: to lead or to follow? Why?

  3. Getting started… • To be a good leader, one must…

  4. Getting started… • To be a good follower, one must…

  5. Called from what?1 Peter 2:9-10 •  9But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

  6. Called from what?1 Peter 2:9-10 • Everyone follows someone or something. What things of darkness seek to lead us through life?

  7. Called from what?1 Peter 2:9-10 This is the sculpture named "The hero. The leader. The god" by Russian New York based artist Alexander Kosolapov. I guess everyone of the characters could be the hero, the god and the leader at the same time. So you could try this: pray to Mickey, watch the Lenin animated series and drink vodka like Jesus.

  8. Called from what?1 Peter 2:9-10 • Where would they eventually lead us?

  9. Called from what?1 Peter 2:9-10 • How would you characterize “his wonderful light” that now is our guide through life?

  10. Called from what?1 Peter 2:9-10 • How did this “call” happen that brought us “out of darkness into his wonderful light”?

  11. Called by Jesus?Matthew 4:18-22 18As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." 20At once they left their nets and followed him. 21Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, 22and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

  12. Called by Jesus?Matthew 4:18-22 • A/D The call Jesus gave to these men to follow doesn’t apply to me.

  13. Called by Jesus?Matthew 4:18-22 • Discuss: • Called vs. Choose.

  14. Called by Jesus?Matthew 4:18-22 • For what purpose has Jesus called us?

  15. Called by Jesus?Matthew 4:18-22 • How does this affect my day to day life?

  16. Who? Me?Matthew 9:9-13 9As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector's booth. "Follow me," he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.  10While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew's house, many tax collectors and "sinners" came and ate with him and his disciples. 11When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and 'sinners'?" 12On hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 13But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.".

  17. Who? Me?Matthew 9:9-13 • Why do you think Jesus called Matthew to be one of his disciples?

  18. Who? Me?Matthew 9:9-13 • What do we learn about Jesus as a leader in this Scripture?

  19. Discussion (as time) • Does each of us have a “calling” in life? Does Jesus call this way?

  20. Discussion (as time) • A/D I should be able to feel different when I am called by God.
