Terms • Western Front: • key area of fighting (theatre of war) in Western Europe where Germans dug and defended trenches to avoid losing territory already gained in France; the British and French, unable to break through, began to build their own. • stalemate: dead-lock, neither side can defeat other took place on western front in France for 4 years
poison gas: • gas first used by Germans and then the Allies to blind, choke victims, and or burn • potentially deadly • uncertain weapon due to wind shifts
