  2. Dog handling History • Dog handling goes way back to the Egyptians, Greeks, Persians, Samaritans, Briton, and even the Romans. The dogs would often where battle clothing like large protective spiked collars and coats of mail armor. Attack formations of dogs were used by the Romans. 1979-1988 the Soviets used dogs against the Afghanis.

  3. Military Dog Breeds Any dog can be a military dog but most of them are German and Dutch Sheppards, Belgian Malinois, Belgian sheep dog, Farm Collies, and Doberman Pinschers. German Sheppards are the most standard dog to use.

  4. How dogs can be very helpful • A fire fight broke out with the Taliban killing Lance corporal Liam Tasker . Shortly after they took his body back his 22 month old Springer spaniel Theo died of a seizure. Dogs are very close to their masters in the military.

  5. Dog Handling Training Uses • The U.S. trains dogs for narcotics detection, security patrol, Explosives detection, arson investigation, and personal protection. • Roger Abshire has over 3000 hrs of classroom and practical trainer and has been Government agencies and Police departments Nation wide.
