  9. What Services Do We Provide? • Preflight • Inflight • Flight Data/Notices To Airmen (NOTAM)

  11. Preflight Services: • Pilot Weather Briefings- -Classroom/OJTI provided -Briefers certified by the NWS -Routinely evaluated by Management/FAA/NWS

  12. Inflight Services: -Enroute radio communications -Assistance to lost/emergency aircraft -Broadcast aviation weather information -Enroute Flight Advisory Service (EFAS) -Airport Advisory Service (AAS)

  13. Flight Data/NOTAM: • Flight Data- -Search and rescue services for VFR -Relay Air Traffic Control clearances -Notify authorities of transborder flights • NOTAM- -Process NOTAMs -Coordinate with affected facilities

  14. What Does Flight Service Offer a Pilot? • All transactions with ATC/Pilot are recorded and archived • FSS Specialists’ many years of experience on the job • FS21 operational computer system- “Virtual FSS” Nationwide access to same database • Pilot Profile allows for quick service

  15. FAA Contract Performance Metrics: • Set by FAA through negotiations with LM • Measures all aspects of operations • Currently under review for improvements • Basis for determining $$

  16. Types of Weather Briefings Provided by Lockheed Martin Flight Service: • Standard- Everything required to conduct a safe flight • Abbreviated- Whatever pilot requests, along with any hazards deemed pertinent • Outlook- 6 hours or more in the future

  17. Standard Briefing: • Adverse Conditions=WA, WS, WST, UUA, etc. • VNR Statement (If applicable) • Synopsis • Current Conditions • Enroute Forecast=FA • Destination Forecast=FT or FA • Winds Aloft=Summarize or interpolate • NOTAMS=Pertinent • On Request Items=MTR/MOA, GPS RAIM, etc.

  18. Abbreviated Briefing: • Specify the items you are requesting • Supplements briefing from another source • Updates previous PWB • Adverse conditions will be provided if not already received • Note: be ready to provide appropriate background information to the briefer

  19. Outlook Briefing: • Departing six (6) or more hours in the future • Forecast information tailored to your proposed departure time • No specifics on current conditions provided • For Planning Purposes Only • Must be followed by a Standard or Abbreviated briefing
