K-4 Standards-Based Report Card Phase 1 ImplementationOctober 1, 2009
Standards-Based Report Cards • Indicate progress toward major learning goals that are aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) for grades K-4 • Communicate more precise information regarding students’ knowledge and skills to parents and other teachers • Separate knowledge goals from behavior goals such as class participation
Rationale for Change • Standards-based report cards align feedback to curriculum and instruction • CCS curriculum is standards-based • Teachers requested a revised report card to provide: • Consistency in reporting student progress • More meaningful feedback to parents • Many schools across the U.S. and surrounding school divisions have moved in the direction of assessing and reporting by standards
Process • Initial Development • A committee of teachers, school administrators, and instructional coordinators • Researched and reviewed sample templates • Developed draft • Feedback and Revisions • Committee members • Teachers and administrators • Parents
Process • Professional Development • Pre-week and follow-up trainings with teachers • Session with Principals • Parent Communication • Website • Letters from Division and Schools • Parent Workshops • Initial Implementation • Grades 2 - 4: Fall 2009 • Grades K - 1: Winter 2010
Ongoing Support • Continue to collect teacher, administrator and parent feedback • Address concerns/questions with revisions and support • Develop and provide additional resources as needed
