Purposes for Reading and Writing • As with most language learning and acquisition processes, reading and writing must be accomplished developmentally • Teachers must be purposeful in determining what is to be taught and when and under what circumstances
Purposes for Reading and Writing • In initial foreign/second language instruction students must be aware of writing to read and/or reading to write • Reading and writing are introduced as means of communication • Students must be convinced that both are fun and enjoyable
