Part 1 • Definitions and adjustments (1.2.1): • Loader • Loads packaged dangerous goods, small containers or portable tanks into or onto a vehicle or a container; or • Loads a container, bulk-container, tank-container or portable tank onto a vehicle.
Part 1 • Definitions and adjustments (1.2.1): • Unloader: any entreprise which • Removes a container, bulk-container,(…) from a vehicle; or • Unloads packaged dangerous goods, (…) from a vehicle or a container; or • Discharges dangerous goods from a tank or from a battery-vehicle, MEMU or MEGC or from a vehicle, large container or small container for carriage in bulk or a bulk-container.
Part 1 • Definitions and adjustments (1.2.1): • Cargo transport unit means: • a vehicle, • a container, • a tank-container, • portable tank or • a MEGC.
Part 1 • Safety obligation of the participants (1.4): • New amendments for: • Consignee • Add new sub-section for: • Unloader, where new obligations are set in particular at unloading site. • If the unloader makes use of the services of other participants (cleaner, decontamination facility, etc) he shall take appropriate measures to ensure that the requirements of ADR have been complied with.
Part 1 • Transitional measures (1.6): • General transitional measures (1.6.1.1) until 30.06.2011. • Use of new marking for LQ is allowed as of 1 January 2011. (1.6.1.20). • Several other transitional periods for tank-containers (1.6.4.40) and trailers (vehicle brakes) (1.6.5.13).

Y Part 3 New marks for LQ (250 x 250 mm) The minimum dimensions for packages shall be 100 mm ´ 100 mm and the minimum width of line forming the diamond shall be 2 mm. If the size of the package so requires, the dimension may be reduced, to be not less than 50 mm ´ 50 mm provided the marking remains clearly visible. For combined land/air transport For land transport • Dangerous Goods packed in limited quantities (3.4): • A complete new section introducing a new marking available as of 1st January 2011 has been added.
Dangerous Goods packed in limited quantities (3.4): • LQ placarding provisions for vehicles and containers do not apply: • To transport units with a maximum mass not exceeding 12 t. • When orange-coloured plate markings are already displayed on vehicles. • When LQ loads on vehicles / in containers are less than 8 tons (gross).
Dangerous Goods packed in limited quantities (3.4): Transport units shall be marked front and rear. Containers shall be marked on all four sides. No transport document for LQ road and rail carriage required. Consignors of LQ shipments shall inform the carrier of the total gross mass in a traceable form in advance of carriage.
Part 5 Symbol (fish and tree): black on white or suitable contrasting background Environmentally hazardous substances (5.2.1.8): • New mark: As of 1 January 2011, except for UN 3077 and UN 3082
Documentation (5.4): • Environmentally hazardous substances (5.4.1.1.18): • The transport document shall bear the additional inscription: « ENVIRONMENTALLY HAZARDOUS » or « MARINE POLLUTANT » (acceptable for carriage in a transport chain including maritime carriage) For example: UN 1017 CHLORINE 2.3 (5.1,8) (C/D) environmentally hazardous

Documentation (5.4): Retention of dangerous goods transport information (5.4.4): • The consignor and the carrier shall retain a copy of the dangerous goods transport document and additional information and documentation as specified in ADR, for a minimum period of three months. • When the documents are kept electronically or in a computer system, the consignor and the carrier shall be able to reproduce them in a printed form.
Special provisions (5.5): The whole Chapter has been amended into special provisions applicable to fumigated cargo transport units (UN 3359). For the purposes of this Chapter, cargo transport unit means a vehicle, a container, a tank-container, a portable tank or a MEGC.
Part 6 Many changes have occurred in ADR 2011. Chapter 6.2 has been completely restructured for ADR 2009, several amendments were made with new sub-sections such as 6.2.2.9 Marking of UN metal hydride storage systems. A new sub-section 6.2.4.2 has been added concerning the periodic inspection and test based on the standards referenced in the table of sub-section 6.2.4.2 Periodic inspection and test. Also a new layout has been introduced in sub-section 6.7.2.20 for the identification plate marking of portable tank.
Part 8 “The portable fire extinguishers shall be suitable for use on a vehicle and shall comply with the relevant requirements of EN 3 Portable fire extinguishers, Part 7 (EN 3-7:2004 + A1:2007).” (8.1.4.3)
The dangerous goods driver training provisions: Based on the initiative of the IRU and its Members in 2009, the WP.15 has made a recast of the whole chapter 8.2. of the dangerous goods driver training provisions including a new model for the training certificate.
