  4. What comes before GPST? • Applying for medicine • A Levels • Undergraduate Medicine • Clinical School • Foundation Year 1-2 Doctor • GPST1-3 total = about 10 years from leaving school to finishing as an ST3

  5. Hospital Posts • A&E, Medicine, Paediatrics, ENT, Orthopaedics, Obs and Gynae, Psychiatry, Palliative Care • Not everyone gets to do all of these

  6. Hospital Posts - Differences • Average Day? • Very varied • Wardround, Clinic, Theatre, A&E, On Call… • Evenings, Nights and Weekends On Call • Bleeps

  7. Hospital Posts • 4-6 month posts • New colleagues, wards, skills • Nomadic - move as you get comfortable • Consultants vs GPs • Alongside trainees for other specialities

  8. Other times we’re not with you? • Out of Hours • One shift a month, while in GP Posts • Supervised • Half-Day Release • Weekly teaching sessions • Role-play • Discussions
