  2. Presentation Purpose To provide you with a high level overview of the CPLP Recertification Program in order to help you prepare for recertification.

Professional Growth Development Continued Education CPLP Recertification…. • Is required to maintain certification • Is focused on professional Growth, Development and Continued Education • Is maintained through testing or by accruing recertification points • Is completed every three years beginning the first day in the month after passing the work product The Heart of the Program

  13. Recertification Policy Overview ASTD CI recertification policies are subject to change. Check the ASTD CI website for any updates to the policy • 60 CPLP recertification points must be accumulated during each three year recertification period in order to maintain the CPLP designation. • Eligible points are categorized; maximum allowable points are assigned to each category.

  14. Category: Continuing Education ASTD CI recertification policies are subject to change. Check the ASTD CI website for any updates to the policy • 30 maximum allowable points per three year cycle. • One point for each physical hour of continuing education. • Points are earned for activities: • within one’s current role/job or • involve a new experience or new content. • Points are accrued on an hourly basis for educational time in WLP-related continuing education events.

Check the ASTD CI website for any updates to the policy • Attending commercially available educational courses or workshops. • Attending WLP industry-related educational sessions at National conferences such as ASTD or SHRM conferences. • Attending WLP industry-related educational sessions at local conferences such as ASTD or SHRM chapter sponsored conferences. • Attending Chapter events or other WLP industry-related meetings. Note: business meetings, committee meetings and general information meetings are excluded from this category. • Attending undergraduate or graduate level WLP courses from an accredited institution.

  16. Category: Speaking and Instructing ASTD CI recertification policies are subject to change. Check the ASTD CI website for any updates to the policy • 20 maximum allowable points per three year cycle. • Points are awarded per hour. • Points are earned for activities: • within one’s current role/job or • involve a new experience or new content. • Points can be earned for development work: • For every hour of delivery, the individual receives an hour of development time. • Points are awarded for the first presentation only.

  17. Speaking and Instructing - Examples ASTD CI recertification policies are subject to change. Check the ASTD CI website for any updates to the policy • Presenting an educational activity on a WLP topic at a conference. • Presenting at an annual meeting for a WLP professional society. • Leading a WLP session or workshop. • Conducting speaking engagements and/or instructing private organizations.

Check the ASTD CI website for any updates to the policy • 20 maximum allowable points per three year cycle. • Points are awarded per hour. • Points can be earned for a first time work experience if that activity adds or enhances the understanding of the WLP body of knowledge. • Points can be earned for both development and delivery work.

  19. OTJ Experience - Examples ASTD CI recertification policies are subject to change. Check the ASTD CI website for any updates to the policy • Developing a competency model for your organization. • Designing a new training program. • Calculating return-on-investment for a new training program.

  20. Category: Research and Publishing ASTD CI recertification policies are subject to change. Check the ASTD CI website for any updates to the policy • 20 maximum allowable points per three year cycle. • Points are awarded per published work. • Points can be earned by conducting research on a WLP-related topic and by writing and publishing the results. • Articles published informally in newsletters, such as learning circuits or blogs, are not eligible.

  21. Research and Publishing - Examples ASTD CI recertification policies are subject to change. Check the ASTD CI website for any updates to the policy • Author of a WLP-related article in a journal or magazine, such as T+D magazine. • Author of a chapter in a WLP-related book. • Author of a WLP-related book. • Author of a WLP-related dissertation of Master’s thesis.

  22. Category: Leadership and Recognition ASTD CI recertification policies are subject to change. Check the ASTD CI website for any updates to the policy • 15 maximum allowable points per three year cycle. • Note: 30 points per three cycle allowable for activities specifically related to CPLP program maintenance and development. • Point values are specified. • Point values are awarded per year or per event. • Points are awarded to Designees who support the profession outside of their role or job. • Points are earned for awards given to the individual not institution • Points only awarded for leadership activities that have a direct WLP link.

  24. Category: Professional Membership ASTD CI recertification policies are subject to change. Check the ASTD CI website for any updates to the policy • 15 maximum allowable points per three year cycle. • Point values are specified. • Points are awarded per year. • Points are available to Designees who are active members of a national, international or local WLP-related professional association or society. • Points requested must be for unique and mutually exclusive experiences.

  27. Recertification Materials… • Recertification Application/Tracking Worksheet • Application Fee - $150 • Supporting Documentation (If Audited)

  28. Timeline and Deadlines Designees may submit applications up to three months before their recertification date. Applications received afterthe deadline will not be accepted. NOTE: All submissions must be postmarked by the recertification deadline.

  29. Review Process • Candidates must submit the recertification application and fee by the postmark regular deadline or application will not be accepted. • Application will be reviewed by ASTD Certification Institute (ASTD CI) staff. • If there is a problem with your recertification materials, ASTD CI staff will contact you to resolve. • If your application is approved, you will be recertified and a new certificate will be issued. • Certification staff is unable to pre-approve recertification credits. If you have any doubts about program eligibility, add extra entries as a safe measure.

  30. Audit Process • Conducted by ASTD CI Staff via a random and targeted selection procedure. • The CI staff will identify recertification applications to be audited and notify designees via letter and email eight weeks in advance. • Selected individuals will be asked to submit both the recertification application and supporting documentation of their activities • Audited submissions must postmark by the recertification deadline. • If your documentation is not sufficient, CI staff will provide feedback via email and you will have an opportunity to correct and resubmit. • You will have two weeks to submit corrections after feedback has been provided. • If your documentation suffices, you will be recertified and a new certificate will be issued.

Suggestions and Tips • Use the program for what it is intended…to encourage, inspire and motivate your growth, development and continued education in the profession. • Points are important but don’t let them be the driver of the process. • Use your best judgment/trust your instincts when selecting activities and determining points. • Over participate if you can. • Keep that documentation. • Don’t wait to the last minute to apply/submit.
