Status On track for all 3 deliverables • D4.1 on track for Month 9 (Sep 2013) • “Procedure for feeding back improved ancillary data to assist CDR updates” • Main inputs are experience from • ESA CCI • EC/FP7 EURO-4M • EUMETSAT • Others? CORE-CLIMAX PM1, REA Brussels, 14 May 2013
Findings to date & Discussion • Feedback mechanisms exist • Time delays noticeable for CDR reprocessing to adopt improved ancillary data • Uptake of improvements depends on awareness of individual science leads & project managers • Bilateral communication remains important • Should programmes be more coordinated? • Technical mechanisms for acquisition are evolving • Historically, dedicated/bilateral dataset preparation by ECMWF • Increasingly, public retrieval from ECMWF/mirror sites • Would more coordination improve traceability & consistency? • In practice, can responsiveness & compliance be achieved?
