  1. CIA THEORY By: Heather titanich, erikmarberger, ericbucci, anu patel, and nataliaklaczany

  2. Statement of theory • The CIA was involved in Kennedy’s assassination due to its anger with the failure of the Bay of Pigs Invasion and its extensive connections with Lee Harvey Oswald, who was charged with the murder of JFK.

  3. Motive behind theory • Revenge • The CIA was angered that the Bay of Pigs invasion was unsuccessful and blamed the failure on Kennedy. • They were further enraged because Kennedy dismissed notable CIA members.

  4. Bay of pigs invasion • Kennedy changed the landing site of the Cuban exiles to the Bay of Pigs regardless of objections from prominent CIA officials. He also canceled the second wave of airstrikes. • These were poor military decisions that led to the invasion’s failure. • Kennedy accepted the responsibility publicly, but he privately blamed the CIA and attained the resignation of longtime Director Allen Dulles, Deputy CIA Director Charles Cabell, and Deputy Director of Operations Richard Bissell.

  5. Bay of Pigs Invasion quotes • “In a parliamentary system of government, it is I who would be leaving office,” he told Dulles after the Bay of Pigs invasion, “But under our system, it is you who must go.” –John F. Kennedy • The New York Times quoted him saying he wanted to “Splinter the CIA into a thousand pieces and scatter it to the winds,” after the failed Bay of Pigs Invasion.

  6. Is the Cia hiding information about its connection with Oswald? • The following is a quote by G. Robert Blakely, staff director and chief counsel for the House Select Committee on Assassinations, said in 2003. • “... I no longer believe that we were able to conduct an appropriate investigation of the Agency and its relationship to Oswald ... The Agency unilaterally deprivedthe [Warren] commission of a chance to obtain the full truth … We also now know that the Agency set up a process that could only have been designed to frustrate the ability of the committee in 1976-79 to obtain any information that might adversely affect the Agency…”

  7. Oswald’s connection with David atlee phillips • CIA’s chief of all operations in the Western Hemisphere • Was in charge of plots against Fidel Castro • May have met with Oswald before the assassination • http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2Xawnd59GBU&safe=active&edufilter=gMLbZye9Ttwkax4D13Y3Fg

  8. Evidence of Oswald’s possible association with the CIA/FBI • His career as a marine was full of discrepancies and unexplained events that suggest intelligence training. • One of his assignments, Atsugi base in Japan, housed a large CIA facility. • Several people, including a former CIA paymaster, Oswald's Marine roommate, and fellow Marine Gerry Patrick Hemming have suggested that Oswald worked for U.S. intelligence.

  9. Evidence of Oswald’s possible association with the CIA/FBI • The manner in which Oswald traveled so effortlessly in and out of Russia and the unaccounted-for funds he used proposes intelligence guidance. • Oswald's notebook contained the word "microdots," a common spy technique of photographically reducing information to a small dot. • One of Oswald's closest contacts, George DeMohrenschildt, was an intelligence operative, first for the Nazis and later for the CIA.

  10. Evidence of Oswald’s possible association with the CIA/FBI • A small Minox camera was found among his belongings. • Information developed by the Dallas Morning News in 1978 revealed the camera was not available to the public in 1963.  • It may have been spy equipment issued to Oswald. • The FBI tried to get Dallas detectives to change their reports regarding the camera and also kept photos taken by Oswald hidden for nearly fifteen years. • The motive may have been that the existence of the camera pointed to Oswald's intelligence connections.

  11. Evidence of Oswald’s possible association with CIA/FBI • On November 22, 2013, Lee Harvey Oswald was quietly added to the memorial wall at CIA Headquarters.  • A spokesman from the CIA refused to comment or elaborate on why the agency has added Oswald’s name to the memorial, only saying that after 50 years, several documents had been declassified, which have “finally allowed the Agency to set the record straight.” • The documents will be available to the public in another twenty years.

  12. Conclusion • 1961: Bay of Pigs Invasion failed because of Kennedy’s refusal to listen to the CIA’s advice. • Kennedy forced high-ranking CIA officials to resign. • This angered the CIA. • Evidence of the connection between Lee Harvey Oswald, who was charged with the murder of JFK, and the CIA reveals the CIA had a key role in the assassination.
