  3. Susan B. Anthony(1820-1906) Prominent American civil rights leader Introduced women’s suffrage to the United States Died 14 years before the passing of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote

  4. Harriet Tubman (1820-1913) • Was a slave who escaped • Became a “conductor” of the Underground Railroad for 8 years • Brought hundreds of people to safety without losing even one • Harriet Tubman

  5. Helen Keller(1880-1968) Contracted an illness as an infant & lost her ability to see and hear Anne Sullivan taught Helen how to communicate Helen became a political activist, lecturer, and author

  6. Eleanor Roosevelt (1884-1962) • Married to President Franklin D. Roosevelt • Prominent author, speaker, politician, & activist • Supported the formation of the United Nations

  7. Rosa Parks (1913-2005) • African American civil rights activist • Refused to give up her seat to a white person on a bus • Helped launch Martin Luther King, Jr. to national prominence in the Civil Rights Movement

  8. Mother Teresa(1910-1997) Roman Catholic nun Founded the Missionaries Charity in Calcutta, India Ministered to the poor, sick, orphaned, and dying for over 45 years

  9. Amelia Earhart(1897- missing 1937, declared dead 1939) Became the 1st aviatrix to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean Formed the Ninety-Nines, an organization for female pilots Disappeared over the Pacific Ocean while attempting a circumnavigational flight

Sacajawea(1790-1812) • Born to the Agaidika tribe of the Shosone in what is now the state of Idaho. • Was taken as a wife by Toussaint Charbonneau, a French trapper • Captains Meriwether Lewis and William Clark hired Charbonneau as an interpreter when they discovered that his wife spoke the Shoshone language . • Contrary to popular opinion, Sacajawea did not serve as a guide for the party. She did help in some translation.
