Getting In: Steps to College • Research schools: programs, incl. transfer • Apply for financial aid: Complete FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) • Apply for admission (college + program): online, in-person • Take Placement Test: COMPASS/CASAS • Submit any previous college transcripts
Getting In: Steps to College (Pt 2) • Schedule/Attend New Student or Program Orientation • Schedule advising appointment • Register for classes: get copy of schedule • Pay tuition: can be dropped for not paying! • Buy books, ID, permit/bus pass, supplies
Financial Aid Basics FAFSA: General Guidelines • Main application for ALL federal funding • Grants, loans, work study, based on FAFSA! • Apply ASAP after Jan 1 (& after tax return) • Check priority deadlines at your school! • Read all email/mail about financial aid! • Print & make copies of everything
