Bill affect American Society? • How could the decade of the fifties be called a decade of promise? • What caused the growth of the highway system? • How was the 1950s pop culture a reflection of the decade? • How did the television impact life in America in the 1950s? • What is your opinion of the actions of the U.S. government during the Bay of Pigs invasion? • How far should the U.S. go in preventing communist expansion?
Activity 1 -American Life 1950s • Groups will be assigned one of the following: Pop Culture (pages 604-606), Suburban life, Highway Act, Baby Boom (pages 600-602). Demobilization and G.I. Bill (pages 592-594), Fall-Out Shelters and Sputnik (pages 583-585), Television (pages 603-604). Each group will research their assigned topic and create a poster and/or graphic organizer that reflects the main points. • Groups will present to class and teacher will check for understanding.
Activity II • Using the textbook and internet, create a cause and effect flow chart of the events of the Korean War. The chart must include causes, American involvement, specific events, outcome, and effects.
Activity III • Using the textbook and internet, create a chart that reflects the policies, events, and issues of the Kennedy administration, as well as his leadership characteristics. Students will use B.08.04-2 "The Kennedy Years" as a guide. • After you complete the chart, write a two sentence summary of the information on the chart. Groups will read aloud.
