Why Diameter support for Mobile IPv6? • Mobile IPv6 is a routing protocol and does not deal with issues related to roaming between administrative domains, e.g. • authorization and authentication of mobile nodes • accounting • establishment of SAs needed for roaming mobile nodes • In order to deploy Mobile IPv6 on a large scale, support of inter-domain roaming is needed • MIPv6 does not have the equivalent of an FA (MIPv4) and as a result does not define any mechanism by which the visited domain can authenticate/authorize access to the local resources and handle accounting tasks • Diameter support for MIPv4 has been worked on in this WG for above reasons

Mobile IPv6 Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting Requirements I-D • Motivation why Diameter support for Mobile IPv6 is required and needs to be developed • Analysis and updates to the requirements expressed in RFC 2977 “Mobile IP Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting Requirements “ • RFC 2977 specified requirements for both Mobile IPv4 and Mobile IPv6. Diameter Mobile IPv6 Application I-D • Based on the requirements, this I-D proposes Diameter Application for Mobile IPv6 • New Diameter application to support: • Mobile node authentication and authorization • Dynamic home agent assignment • Dynamic home address assignment • Key distribution • http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-le-aaa-diameter-mobileipv6-02.txt

  6. Next steps • Request AAA WG to begin work that deals with Diameter for Mobile IPv6 now • Requirements I-D and Diameter for MIPv6 App I-D be the starting point • Chair/WG action: • Above drafts be considered as WG I-Ds and WG charter include completion milestones for the same
