For what reason do we need to win/lose? • Objectives/aka what I’m learning & the take aways 1) identify a Greek/Latin root word 2) review previous released AP essay/free response test results 3) share and offer observations in collaboration with classmate on prompt to sports topic 4) record meaningful learning • I can record the Root word of the day #8 • I can finish assessing the written responses to previous AP test. We can hand in our observations. • I can share my sports essay with a partner – I can read or listen. • After I listen I will offer feedback to the writer – one thing I liked, one thing I noticed about style or content, one questions, one suggestion – the hardest part. • After I read I will listen to the comments and questions and will consider the audience’s suggestions • and either hand it in or improve it and hand it in tomorrow. • I can remember to do a take away

Explain why you support or oppose it. • Objectives/aka what I’m learning & the take aways: 1) hand in essay for assessment 2) review and practice using roots of Greek & Latin 3) understand the synthesis essay 4) understand and develop a strategy for the test 5) practice responding to synthesis prompt 6) reflect on learning • I can hand in my sports essay • I can do Greek Latin roots #9 • I can preview a free response synthesis essay – what I notice about it, and how I will prepare to address it. • I can do the free response synthesis essay from 2011 – working through it asking questions about how to do it – making observations about cites etc. • I can do a take away.

Wednesday may 7thJF #10 FWW (5 minutes) • Objectives/aka what I’m learning & the take aways: 1) effective strategies for MC test taking 2) apply strategies for MC testtaking 3) make observations about results of MC test 4) read for discerning effective strategies for writing analysis • I can review the handout on MC test taking strategies (5 minutes) • I can do my last MC practice from an AP test (30 minutes – select a strategy) • I can record the results of my practice • I can read and highlight the hand out on effective writing – chapter 12 of They Say I Say from the chapter, I will identify five things to share with the class – I will put these in writing and hand them in tomorrow. • I can go to room A277 for the AP test on Friday morning

Thursday May 8thJG #1 FWF – then hand in (5minutes). • Objectives/aka what I’m learning & the take aways 1) practice identifying rhetorical devices 2) applying analysis 3) share observations about effective analysis 4) review SOAPSTone 5) discuss and think about purpose in writing analysis and various writings on AP test 6) develop an attitude of confidence • I can identify how rhetorical devices used by Churchill in an excerpt are effective and apply as prep for tomorrow’s test. (next slide) (7 minutes) • Share notes from last night’s reading – then hand it in (5 minutes) • Look at the previous release – comments, questions, discussions. Hand out on Synthesis response – crash fresh reminders! SOAPSTone for question 2, and some of question 3. • Last notes on effective writing and question 3 of free response – you must use your own resources for question 3 – what you have read, what you know, you MUST make connections! • Use time to prep for test – last minute issues/concerns? • I can meet before the exam in Norton’s room for prep food and confidence building! • I can go to room A277 for the AP test on Friday morning

Churchill draws attention to the contrasting sides of Henry VIII through detail. How is the impact of this sentence strengthened by the order of the details’ presentation? 2. What is Churchill’s attitude toward Henry? What specific details reveal this attitude? Apply: Think of someone you know who has two strong sides to his/her personality. Using Churchill’s sentence as a model, write a sentence which captures—through detail—these two sides.
