¿Qué son los mandatos? • What is a command? • When you tell someone to do an action or not to do an action. • Commands are actions you tell someone to do now, in the PRESENT. • For example: Jump, don’t jump, talk, don’t talk, etc. • Commands are something you tell someone to do now, in the PRESENT.
Mandatos familiares -car,-gar,-zar • Commands can be afirmative, • Or they can be negative. • Commands can be familiar/informal(talking to tú) or formal(talking to usted). • Commands can also be irregular. • Not all commands follow the rules already learned.
Mandatos familiares -car,-gar,-zar • To form a negative familiar command (talking to tú) you follow three steps: • Conjugate the verb to the yo form - tocar(to touch) yo toco(I touch) 2. Drop the –o from the verb. - yo toco(I touch) toc 3. Now what happens? Usually: -for -ar verbs add es, for -er/-ir add as.

Tocar No toces • How do you pronounce the following words? • cero, conocer, centro, hacer . • Based on these words, how would you pronounce the command No toces?
Mandatos familiares -car,-gar,-zar • In order to keep the sound of the original verb tocar, we must change the c to qu. Tocar No toques • Now we have the same sound as before.

Add opposite vowel. -for -ar verbs add es, for -er/-ir add as. llegar No lleges • How do you pronounce the following words? • general, Argentina, Geraldo, Ángela. • Based on these words, how would you pronounce the command No lleges?

Mandatos familiares irregulares • Verbs ending in –ZAR. • For some reason these verbs also change, but it doesn’t have to do with sound. • The z changes to c. • Then add es.

Mandatos familiares -car,-gar,-zar • Remember, for negatives you: • Form the yo, • Drop the “o”, • Opposite vowel. • For –CAR, -GAR, and –ZAR ending verbs you must make the spelling changes. • C to QU, G to GU, Z to C • Also, in order to make it negative you MUST put NO in front of the verb to say DON’T!

Use vocabulary that you know.(Estoy tocando . . .) • Student 2: Using a negative command, tell student 1 not to do the activity he’s doing.(No toques . . .) • Switch roles.
