  1. ProbabilityMultiplication Principles of Counting Standard: MM1D1a - a. Apply the addition and multiplication principles of counting.

  2. Let’s Change Gears! At a sporting goods store, skateboards are available in 8 different deck designs. Each deck design is available with 4 different wheel assemblies. How many skateboard choices does the store offer? Lets make a tree diagram!

  3. cont… What else could you do to find the solution? Multiply # of deck designs by the number of wheel assemblies 4•8 = 32 skateboard choices

  4. The Multiplication Counting Principle If one event can occur in m ways and another event can occur in n ways, then the number of ways that both events can occur together is m•n. This principle can be extended to three or more events.

  5. Dice When rolling a die twice, what is the probability of getting a 1 then a 4?

  6. Cards Two cards are drawn from a deck. What is the probability of those cards being a Jack and a 2?

  7. Spinners A spinner is spun twice. What is the probability of getting a red then a blue?

  8. Pennies Two pennies are flipped. What is the probability of getting two tails?

  9. In Conclusion… With your neighbor, compare and contrast the problems that were completed in the stations with those just looked at here.
