“My private and daily love for Jesus should lead to weekly Great Commission times with everyone in my HOME.” Wk1: Worship Wk2: Encouragement Wk3: Witness Wk4: Intercession
The Original Mission “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it.’” Ge 1:27-28 “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” Ge 2:15 Take care of the life around you
The Great Commission “Then the disciples went [HOME] to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Biblical intercession is praying for God’s Will to be done in those around us (near or far). “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” - Mt 6:9-10
“They [disciples] devoted themselves … to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe…. They broke bread in their homes” Ac 2:42 “I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it …whatever you [disciples] bind on earth will be bound in heaven, & whatever you loose on earth...” Mt 16:19 “The weapons we [disciples] fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.” 2 Co 10:4 “For our [disciples] struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against . . . the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Eph 6:10-12
Jesus gives us the responsibility and power to partner with Him to begin and care for spiritual life in this world
The Compassion & Call Of Jesus When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” Mt. 9:35-38
WHEN HAS “INTERCESSION” HAPPENED? When people in your home . . . • feel united by and for Jesus • sacrifice self-interest to see God’s will be done • moved by the Holy Spirit to care deeply for others “After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.” Ac 4:31
1. We see a need 2. We remember a Scripture • We apply that Scripture to that need Father: “let Your will done” Son: “break every lie and plan of Satan” Holy Spirit: “come and have your way” Stand firm then, with . . the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers . . .” Eph 6:10-18
The power of intercession in our homes may seem hidden to usWe have to have faith that beginning in even small ways, and in moments of need, will lead to the joy of intercession in our homes “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” (Heb 11:1)
Ways To Intercede As A Home • People & Promise Prayers Use your home’s Bible reading as a guide to prayer for people you love. For your intercession time, have everyone look back at the verses they read and see who God brings to their heart. Let each person take a turn praying their Scripture over the people or problems God has placed on their hearts.

Ways To Intercede As A Home 2. Pray Through A Psalm Or Other Scripture This takes a little preparation ahead of time but can really help everyone be involved in intercession. Break up a psalm into a few sections and come up with a prayer point for each section. Have ‘Person A’ read that section and then share the prayer point. Give everyone 30 seconds to individually pray that point and then have ‘Person A’ finish with a prayer on the point for the whole group. ‘Person B’ takes the next section.
Ways To Intercede As A Home 3. Neighborhood Prayer Walk Take your family, spouse or friends on a walk through your neighborhood. Before you head out, choose a Scripture that you can use to guide your prayer time. Then, pray that scripture over each house and neighbor you pass. And don’t be shy to let your neighbors know that you are praying for them if they ask. God can use those divine appointments to open their hearts to His love and compassion!
Ways To Intercede As A Home 4. Art Intercession Have your family/roommates sit around a large piece of art paper, with Bibles and art supplies all around. Ask God to give you Scripturesas well as pictures and impressions you can pray over a specific need or area. As each individual in your home listens to God’s voice, invite them to write or draw out what God speaks to them.
Ways To Intercede As A Home 5. Prayer Wall / Bulletin Board Create a space to put pictures, maps and prayer lists in your home. Place Scriptures, personal prayers and/or words from God next to those things as a visual history of God’s promises and answers to those needs.
Final Thoughts • If no one in your home will intercede with you then that’s probably your first intercession focus: those in your home. • Let others choose the intercession focus/need. • It teaches you to get over yourself. It’s the healthiest thing you can do for your relationships, especially marriage. • Be careful of your attitude when interceding for people who are against the Gospel. Pray against Satan, not people. • The Goal is Jesus: His Compassion
