  9. Activity: Logging In Log in to Your Practice Course The URL is http://build.vista.nau.edu Use your NAU ID and password to log in.

  10. Activity: My WebCT • Add a To Do Note. • Hide the My Grades channel. • Rearrange the order in which the channels display.

  12. Common Functions • Underlined text indicates that an item is clickable • ActionLink menus • Sort by column • Select items in a list and perform an action • Paging preferences

  13. Activity: Using Mail • From My Vista, open Mail. • Create a message. • Compose a one-word message of high priority. Address it to yourself. • Sort messages by author, date, or subject. • Create a new folder and move a read message to it. • Collapse the folder frame.

  15. Design Features of Build Tab The Build tab is where you construct a course. • Course Design Process • Add Course Tools • Create Content • Organize Content • Customize the Look of Your Course

  16. Activity: Add Tool and Set Its Visibility • Add the Announcements and Who’s Online tools to your course. • Hide the Who’s Online tool. • Go to the Student View tab and note which tools are available.

  17. Creating Content • In WebCT CE, you use Course Tools to create content items. The items are added to that tool’s inventory. • Students can access the items by: • clicking on the appropriate tool in Course Tools to display its inventory • clicking a link you have added to the items from the Course Content Home, Learning Modules, or folders.

  18. Activity: Creating Content • Create a Chat room called Virtual Office Hours. • Create two Web Links. Make one visible and one hidden. Go to the Student View tab and note which links are visible to students.

Activity: Organizing Content • Using the Add Content Link feature, add the Web Link that you created earlier to Course Content Home. • From Course Tools, use the Chat tool to add the Virtual Office Hours room to Course Content Home. • Add a file to Course Content Home. • Add a folder and add a link to a content item.

  20. Activity: Using ActionLinks • Hide a link. • Move a link. • Customize a link by adding a description for it.

  21. Customizing the Look of Your Course • Global color selections - affect the display of Course Content Home, Folders, and tool pages. They do not affect colors within HTML pages you have uploaded to the course. • Headers and footers – important for conveying information • Layouts – can minimize scrolling

  22. Activity: Selecting Course Colors • Select one of the predetermined color sets for your course. • Select a custom color set for your course.

  23. Activity: Page Options • Edit the header on Course Content Home. • Add a footer to a folder. • Change the page layout for Course Content Home to Layout 4.

  24. Activity: Changing Icons • Change the icons for your entire course by selecting a new icon set. • Replace an individual icon with an image file stored in the File Manager.
