What Type of Data is Collected? • SASID • General: Name, Grade, School • Fund Code • 632 (SY)/ 625 (Summer) – Allocation grants to districts • 619 (SY)/ 592 (Summer) – Competitive grants to districts and partners • 598 (SY)/ 593 (Summer) – Competitive grants to community colleges and partners • 596 (SY)/ 597 (Summer) – Competitive grants to work and learning programs
What Type of Data is Collected? • Project (e.g. ELA3DF – HS English during day fall session)
What Type of Data is Collected? • Instructional Model • 1:1; 1:2-1:5; 1:6-10; Other • Hours of service • Status • Completed Program • Enrolled, but did not attend • Withdrew • Passed MCAS during Program • Transferred out of School/District
How to Use Data? • Inform your narrative evaluation and future proposals • Improve your program • Do we need to increase outreach efforts? • Is Day vs. Extended better for attendance and outcomes? • Are more service hours needed? • Was there more success on ELA vs. MTH – why? • What was the most important factor for MCAS score increase? • Build support for your program (e.g. present data to school board)
How to Improve Data Collection? • Appoint central person to plan collection and input data into security portal • Make sure central person has access to security portal (http://www.doe.mass.edu/infoservices/data/diradmin/list.asp)and also is aware of deadlines • Have central person share with program instructors the data that needs to be collected, his/her role in the collection process, and why it is collected
How to Improve Data Collection? • Suggestion: Maintain data in an excel spreadsheet before inputting into the security portal (DOE website) • Start entering data into security portal at least two weeks before due date to account for issues that may arise and so that it can be used to inform narrative
What are Data Submission Due Dates? • Fall Session – Prep for Nov. re-test (Sept. to mid-Nov.): January 31, 2005 • Winter Session – Prep for March re-test (late-Nov. to early-Mar.): April 30, 2005 • Spring Session – Prep for July re-test (Feb/Mar. to May/June): July 31, 2005* • Summer Session – Prep for July or Nov. re-test (July-August): September 30, 2005* *Narrative Evaluations are also due on this date
