  1. LST Storage and Testingat SLAC in the SLD Hall Carsten Hast (SLAC) October 20th 2003 for all who are involved, even though they don’t know it yet … • Available space • Available Infrastructure • Needed Infrastructure • Time Line • People • Money

  2. Basic Parameters • SLD hall offers 50x60 feet^2 of open space • and additional space around that for walking and even more space… • We expect less than 180 H-boxes total • stacking them 6 high gives 30 stacks (3 high = 60 stacks) • We don’t want to take modules out of the H-boxes • We want to keep all modules in the H-boxes permanently under gas flow and HV • short interruptions, or even a month without HV should be no problem • We will have a BaBar type readout and monitoring • We will use pre-mixed non-flammable gas • We will perform cosmic tests of the modules inside of the H-boxes

  3. SLD-Hall Layout More space here …

  4. How to stack H-boxes (one option) • UniStrut Frame, 1.5’ high for as many stacks as needed • two boxes would be close (0.5’) to each other, then 2’ for access • Each stack and actually each H-box is accessible by crane • Stacks will be strapped to the UniStrut for earthquake safety • or put them directly on the floor (but still need UniStrut rail to earthquake proof them

  5. Cosmic Test Stand • Mimic the existing RPC test stand • Use real BaBar DAQ, again from RPC test stand (parts of that are still in Italy, but have been requested to be shipped back to SLAC) • Currently we want to use LST modules as trigger telescopes • We can build the lower part on a cart and make it mobile to move the test stand to the stored H-box stacks (1t) • Suggestion: to increase active surface specially produce 2 3x8 modules and some special z-readout planes for these test

  6. HV supplies and cables • We want to use the original Ohio build power supplies and the majority of the final cables (Their time line dictates the availability for us) All technical and practical details (cable length, power supply location, etc.) have still to be worked out Gas • We will use premixed, non-flammable gas • A big trailer is available  lasts for some month • PolyFlow, valves, some flow meters, connection pieces are available or can be bought on short time scale Control System • We want to use a BaBar type EPICS based system, same thing as will be used in the detector • Needed electronics has to be specified and found (should be no problem we need it anyhow) • software has to be written (has to be written for the detector anyhow)

  7. Timeline • End of January 2004 1st modules at SLAC • March/April many more will come • August last module arrives • SLD Hall is ready for installation work early November • We are doing still some cleaning and re-painting • Installation of a small storage area made from UniStrut, for January modules should only take a few days. Then we can see whether we do like it and do changes if we want to. We should do that in early December. • BaBar DAQ setup should start not later than December (just to not be surprised) • Gas installation (trailer, pipes from trailer to test area etc.) should be finished in early December, so we don’t have too much to do in January • Leak-Check Cart and Readout Cart should be build in November • Cosmic Test Stand (cart or static) without LSTs should be finished in December •  We can move a test tube down to the test stand mid December and see where we are

  8. People Minghui Lu ? Chiara Simani Carsten Hast Nick Sinev All, Lead ? • DAQ Setup • Cosmic Track Finder • Gas Leak Test • Infrastructure (Storage,Test Stand, Gas Infrastructure, etc.) • HV/Gas Epics Control • Daily operations Money is available When we start now we will have storage and a working Test Stand available by January 2004
