My Background • Family physician/geriatrician in rural Maine for almost 20 years • Working at a national level on depression in primary care since 1997 – MacArthur, MHMC, RWJF • National leadership on behavioral health quality measurement – AHRQ, NCQA, SAMHSA
Goals • Specific short term goal – initial publication of some behavioral health measures on Get Better Maine website by Sept. 30, 2014 • Measures that are important to providers and patients • What care do I want to give/receive? • Scope • Primary care practices • Behavioral health organizations/practitioners
How will we accomplish short term goal? • Align with current measurement requirements • Small number of measures • Choose those important to key constituencies • Try for balanced set, covering a number of domains of quality • The Triple Aim (care, quality, cost) • Initially report on ability to measure
Why include integration? • Maine is a leader, and many primary care practices will be able to report on some aspect of integrated care • The integration of behavioral and physical healthcare is essential to the ability to achieve quality outcomes
