4. Several years ago, a computer savvy 3rd year resident took on a portion of the family medicine webpage = the resident’s corner.
Different areas were managed by different people, but the resident’s corner involved the latest gouge on upcoming rotation information.
A resident was responsible for keeping the gouge up to date, which is a difficult task. Dr. Holman, our dept head, runs a section on EBM topics and possible research or publication opportunities for residents. But what I found was that with few exceptions, webmasters moved on…but the collateral web duties remained unfilled. As an intern, I watched the site become outdated once the resident managing it left. The role needed to be filled, and though not so savvy myself, my husband works in the IT field and had designed webpages…so I decided to sign us up.
He started out patient, but my lay substandard knowledge of the subject frustrated him. Instead of frustration, I did what every person should do – surround yourself with those who can help you learn.
Picture of Dr. Gair - Dr. Gair loves to organize, she organizes offices, doctors lounges, and she developed a vision of what our website was to be. Progress is slow and unrewarding initially because we were spinning our wheels to make all the pieces link appropriately. Organization is the key!
