  2. Tundra location • Northern continents include North America , Northern Eurasia , Greenland and in parts of Antarctica . • The latitude is 156 degrees , the longitude is 60 to 70 degrees .

  3. Climate •In the summer in the Tundra on average it is 45 degrees and in the winter it is far below -30 degrees •dark for months at times and short days •In the Tundra precipitation is 6 inches to 10 this is less rain than some deserts get! •the wind blows a lot •Summer is 6 to 10 weeks • The Tundra climate is decreasing because of global warming,

  4. •Because of global warming permafrost is melting and the animals that eat the shrubs will probably be endangered because new and different shrubs will begin to sprout because of the loss of permafrost

  5. •Because of the poor drainage in the Tundra extra water can be stored in grown or on ground because of the dense soil roots don’t need to be deep because of this

  6. Animals • Polar bear- polar bears are well protected from the cold weather because like lots of animals in the tundra ,the polar bear has blubber a layer of fat underneath the fur. • Prickle back- a nocturnal fish that hides under rocks during the day. It has a serpent(snake) like body. Not much is known about it. Its face resembles a prehistoric fish called the coelacanth.

  7. Tundra birds Raven- Ravens are the largest members of the crow family, they are almost twice as big as crows, Ravens can live in the cold because there black feathers absorb heat Ravens will steal small mammals and eggs and then hide there prey. In the winter Ravens will follow polar bears and eat any food they leave behind.

  8. •Snowy owl-the snowy is white to hide in the white snow from predators. The snowy owl Has feathers covered from head to toe to protect it in the cold. lemming is there main source of food they will feed on smaller animals like small birds ground squirrels and hares. The snowy owl has many other common owl traits.

  9. Tundra food chain • The tundra food chain normally starts with producers (grass) . Then it goes to the Herbivores (rabbits or caribou) . Then it’s the carnivores (normally a grizzly or arctic fox).

  10. Plants • Saxifrage- a purple flower that survives in the tundra and it usually has permafrost covering it. it can survive in temperatures around -25 degrees .f. • There are no trees in the tundra biome. • There are no big plants in the tundra because the permafrost shields big plants from growing because it can be some 1476 feet deep.

  11. FUN FACTS • Did you know that a polar bears skin is black? • When Muskoxen ram each other, there is no brain damage because there is an air pocket in between their skull an their brain. • The tundra is believed to be the most dangerous biome on earth because it is the coldest and unless you are prepared you wont survive.
