  1. Initiating an Integrated Data Management for PaCOOS A joint (NWC-SWC) west coast project supported by NOAA IOOS

  2. Why does IOOS need a data integration project? • NMFS has extensive and intensive west coast data holdings • Need to serve various survey & other biological data sets • Appropriate to integrate biological and physical observations • Integrating west coast data sets into backbone would serve regional associations and identify gaps • Demonstration of integrating ecological & physical data sets to RAs

  3. Requirements for IOOS data integration • IOOS DMAC compliance • Consistency with national standards • Capabilities for data discovery, access, visualization & transport • Integrate variety of data sets • Common vocabulary between data sets • Transparency & interoperability within larger data system • Greater presence of biological data

  4. Project Objectives • Long-term planning & design for PaCOOS DM system • Identify steps for fully interoperable data system • Guidance for other regional OOS DM • Two pilot projects - combining physical & biological data sets • Benthic fish habitat • Pelagic observation systems

  5. Project Accomplishments - FY 05 • Coordination meetings • Lessons learned • Metadata standardization initiated • Support funds for improving data delivery • Milestone- Implement OPeNDAP server for CalCOFI physical & biological data

  6. Physical & Biological Information from Pelagic Observation Systems • Portal page created • Hierarchical data catalog developed • OPeNDAP to ArcGIS converters developed • Data sets served on LAS and OPeNDAP • CalCOFI - physical & biological • US GLOBEC NEP - physical & biological • SWC midwater trawl survey • SWC ecosystem cruise data • SWC groundfish EFH data

  7. Jerome’s presentation material goes here

  8. FY 06 Plans • Complete combined LAS for all data sets • Continue efforts to agree upon & implement community standards • Deliver document to IOOS on developing regional integrated DM system • Identify/support integration & delivery of additional west coast data sets
