What are political cartoons? • Political (sometimes called editorial) cartoons are primarily expressions of opinion • the illustrator draws about what they think • Usually evoke (cause) an emotional response to whoever is looking at the cartoon • Smile, Laughter • Anger • Its main point usually can be summed up in a few sentences • The best cartoons present an opinion and suggest the reason for that opinion • In other words, a political cartoon is more similar to an argument than a slogan • The argument is often portrayed in one of several ways • One such way is the manner in which specific features are exaggerated • Another way is the manner in which the people are caricatured with the objects selected as symbols

POLITICAL CARTOON ROUND ROBIN • Each group has a different political cartoon that depicts one of the following: • The euro • The US dollar • The relationship between the euro and the US dollar • Answer the questions for your cartoon • Each person should record the answers and ideas regarding your cartoon on your own paper • These will help you with your next assignment! • Be prepared to explain your cartoon to the rest of the class
