Why Flossing Is Important ? Many of us brush our teeth, and think, “well that’s good enough.” Unfortunately this is not true. Flossing is a key element to our overall dental health. Brushing your teeth removes plaque, which is good, but this isn’t enough. Flossing is important to remove bacteria that are trapped in between your teeth and under your gums. The floss helps to remove any plaque between tight spaces. Our teeth are anchored by roots to our lower and upper bones of our jaw. These bones and roots are covered by the tissue of our gums. Small pieces of food tend to get suck in between where teeth and gums meet. It is important to floss, because if we don’t then plaque can easily harden in these tight areas, and over time this plaque forms into tartar, swollen gums, or can even lead to gum disease. If this occurs, and then problem is left untreated then the tartar can spread all long the gums, which causes a severe gum disease called periodontitis. Therefore flossing is very important, as the floss is able to get into tight spaces and ensures all plaque is removed from our mouths.
