There can be as few as three levels or hundreds of levels in an organizations compensation plan. For each level there is a minimum - midpoint and maximum pay range. The levels determine the experience levels and credentials for a candidate. For example, 1 = no experience to level 7 = excellent experience. Within each level there is a pay range which allows for room to place employees based on performance, ability to be promoted, rank, etc.
