  1. Assignment 1: Research paper Choose a case in which animals have been taught human language and analyze it from a linguistic point of view. Write a 1000 word research paper with citations and references. Due date: week 5 (Thursday) Your essay should include following points: • In your introduction, include some background about the chosen animal. Why have the scientist(s) particularly chosen them? Also include a description of the scientist(s). • What were the techniques used? What were the results? • How much have the scientists succeeded in teaching them human language? Critically examine the claims of the scientist(s) • Which of Hockett’s design features are the animals able to display?
