  29. WATER ROCKET Basic Parts of a Water Rocket Principle of Rocket Flight Construction of a Water Rocket (video)

  30. BASIC PARTS OF A WATER ROCKET • Nose cone • Contains Ballast and Cushioning • Ballast provides aerodynamic stability during flight • Cushioning preserves shape of rocket on impact • Body • Holds water and compressed air • Skirt • Used for attaching fins to body • Fins • Ensure accurate flight in desired direction • Nozzle • Releases compressed air and water from body at high velocity

  31. PRINCIPLE OF ROCKET FLIGHT • Newton’s famous Third Law of Motion: • FOR EVERY ACTION, THERE IS AN EQUAL AND OPPOSITE REACTION • In Water Rockets: • Action: • Release of compressed air and water from body of rocket through nozzle • Reaction: • Rocket propelled forward at high velocity due to thrust thus produced

  32. CONSTRUCTION OF A WATER ROCKET • Official video on making of Water Rockets by JAXA

  33. Water Rocket Competition, 2012 Practice Launching Session Format of Competition Prize Distribution Ceremony

  41. FORMAT OF COMPETITION • Judging: • The launches will be judged on the basis of precision of flight • A target will be set up with centre at a distance of 60m from launcher • Distance of point of impact of each rocket will be measured from target and will be recorded as score of the team for that round • The best score from the two rounds will be selected as each team’s final score • The competitor who achieves the highest score, i.e. closet to the center of the target, after 2 launches will be declared the winner of the Launch Competition • In case of tie, the scores of the 2nd launches will be compared • The Decision By The Judges Will Be Held Final And Cannot Be Challenged
