About AVID AVID is a nonprofit organization that provides educators with proven, real-world strategies to accelerate the performance of underrepresented students so that these students and all students across the entire campus succeed in college, career, and life.

Who an the AVID Elective student? These are capable students in the academic middle, often not realizing their full academic potential. Criteria to consider include: • Standardized Test Scores • Grades • Behavior • Attendance • College Potential • Desire and Determination • Family Support • Historically Under-represented in 4-year Colleges • Economic Situation • Other Special Circumstances
How the AVID Elective Works • Accelerates under-achieving students, who have potential, into more rigorous courses • Teaches academic and social skills not targeted in other classes • Provides intensive support with in-class tutors and a strong student/teacher relationship • Creates a positive peer group for students • Develops a sense of hope and personal achievementgained through hard work and determination
